AVERT’s mission is to reduce the number of new HIV infections worldwide and to provide support to those living with HIV. One of the ways in which we do this is by working with partner organisations in areas most affected by the epidemic. Our partner the Umunthu Foundation is based in the Blantyre region of Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world, where around 11% of the population are living with HIV. They provide free HIV testing and counselling, support groups for people living with HIV and home-based carers, run anti-AIDS youth groups and community HIV prevention initiatives, and provide small loans so that people living with HIV can set up their own small businesses and support their families. Your redemption will provide the Umunthu Foundation with the materials needed to administer one HIV test. Having an HIV test is the first step towards getting a person on treatment and improving their health.
