WHY IT MATTERS
Create pollinator pit stops for Monarch butterflies, bees and other pollinators along the Butterfly Highway in North Carolina. Pit stops can be of varying sizes and consist of a raised bed with 3-10 varieties of native nectar and pollen producing plants. The pit stops and way stations will be built in neighborhoods and communities that do not currently have sufficient native flowering plants to support bees, butterflies and other pollinators due to the effects of urbanization. In addition to building pit stops, the Butterfly Highway supports larger scale restoration projects in public and private right of ways and under utilized open spaces.
